Dear guests, welcome to the MEROS B&B. The MEROS B&B is located inside the baked mud walls of ancient Khiva, not far from the western & northern gates. The guest house started welcoming guests in 1999. MEROS means 'cultural heritage' in English, and the Matkarimov's family is steeped in Uzbek culture. Their great-great-grandfather Said Arbob was a master artisan (usto in Uzbek) engaged by the Khivan Khans.
Saadulla Matkarimov (1936-1993) father of the owner Kuranbay Matkarimov, worked for more than 20 years on the restoration of Khiva during the Soviet Union. Kuranbay Matkarimov (1957-2018), was a master of pattern design and restoration. He worked on restoration projects in the World Heritage centres of Khiva, Bukhara and Shaxrisabz. He was chief restorer of the decorated ceilings of Khiva. The ceilings in the MEROS guest rooms and verandahs are painted in this classical Khorezmian style.
